10 Co-Stars Who Dated In Real Life (And 10 We Wish Would Date)

Quick Links

Which are your favorite movies and series? Depending on your most preferred genre, you will find yourself attracted to the storylines you can relate to the most or the ones that totally blow your mind. People have always assumed that all women love romantic films and series because it's hard to come across women who don’t. Even at this time when everyone is talking about superhero films, of course, all the men are flocking the theaters to watch the amazing fight scenes, while most women are more interested in the relationships.

Regardless of what makes you invest your time and money watching a film, play, or even a series, you are sure to come across some interesting relationships. Of course, relationships involving the lead actors and actresses usually appear to be the most important in a show as well as the most "believable." This article is about 10 costars whose relationships were so believable on screen the actors eventually started dating in real life. It's also about 10 costars who we've not seen going out in real life, but we'd love to, owing to how amazing their on-screen chemistry is.

Although all actors know it's not a good idea to hook up with their co-stars, most don’t care since they end up doing it either way. This is despite the rate at which such relationships break, with most of the ones on this list and out there never getting to the three-year mark. Which other relationships do you think we missed? Also, which ones would you love to see moving from the screen to real life?

Dated In Real Life: Kit Harington and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones)

Although we know very little about Game of Thrones' Season 8, just thinking about what we already know is enough to make someone go crazy. First, we don’t understand why we couldn't just watch this last series this year. It also makes no sense why this final season will only have six episodes. Furthermore, all we know right now is HBO will start airing the show sometime in 2019, and we can't help but hope and pray that none of our favorite characters die.

Kit Harington plays the role of Jon Snow, one of the most loved characters in the show. Actually, most fans of the show hope to see an ending where Snow has killed off all the White Walkers and finally sits on the Iron Throne. Snow's onscreen relationship with Ygritte, a character who was played by Rose Leslie, was one of the things we loved about him, and the reason the couple makes it to this list.

However, whatever was going on between them on screen must have been amazing, since these two started dating soon after. These two are engaged, and according to the Daily Mail, they sent out Game of Thrones-themed wedding invitation cards to the 200 guests they want to attend their wedding. We hope these two won't let anything come between them.

We Wish Would Date: Chadwick Boseman and Lupita Nyong'o (Black Panther)

When Black Panther came out in February of this year, it broke all sorts of records out there, making it one of the most popular superhero films of all time. This film was more than just another superhero film because it appears to have triggered a sense of pride among all communities in the world, especially the dark-skinned ones. Although Marvel's marketing machinery appears to have no rival, people wouldn't have predicted that this solo movie about a relatively unknown superhero would be so profitable and attract so much praise.

Although the film was largely about who would become the rightful Black Panther, we couldn't help but notice the relationship between the characters, T'Challa and Nakia, played by Chadwick Boseman and Lupita Nyong'o. From the movie, we got to understand that Nakia was possibly the only woman who has the power to distract T'Challa, owing to the romantic feelings he has for her.

The film didn't go too deep into defining their relationship, but we could tell that the two were deeply in love, despite her affiliations especially in the comics. Judging from what we saw in the movie, Boseman and Nyong'o would make the perfect couple, since neither of them is married or appears to be in a serious relationship at this time.

Dated In Real Life: Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory)

If you've watched The Big Bang Theory, then you understand why everybody loves the show. Many people wouldn't have predicted how funny it would be to bring science geeks and a beautiful outgoing girl together in a comedy show. Although it’s a comedy show and the actors aren't real life geeks, Mayim Bialik who plays the role of Amy Farrah Fowler is an actual neuroscientist and holds a Ph.D. from UCLA.

One of the most successful relationships in the show is between Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki's characters, Penny and Leonard, who are currently married in the show. Of course, judging by how the show has presented the characters, this is one of those relationships you ask "What did that guy do to deserve such a girl?"

In the show, these two are married and living together, and in real life, this was almost the case, although, they kept their relationship so private most of us got to find out about it when they broke up. According to Kaley, these two dated in secret for about two years, but their celebrity status and the limitations of such fame contributed towards the breakdown of their relationship. At least they're still very good friends despite parting ways. Do you think it’s a bit awkward for them to act as a married couple on set today?

We Wish Would Date: Zac Efron and Zendaya (The Greatest Showman)

The recent performance of actor and singer, Zac Efron, and actress and singer, Zendaya, in the film, The Greatest Showman, left our jaws on the floor. They played a romantic couple who couldn't date in public because of their different backgrounds, but they beat all odds in the end.

We weren't surprised that they were perfect on screen, since we don't expect any less from two beautiful people who can sing, dance, and act. However, their relationship on screen had our hearts skipping multiple beats as well. Surprisingly, they continue to be friends off screen, almost as if they have known each other for ages. Zac Efron, who turns 30 this year, continues to win hearts of teens and women in their twenties. Zendaya, who turns 22 this year, has a large following of fans and crushes across the world.

They both started acting on the Disney Channel and are both beautiful. They live a scandal-free life, they have common interests, and people love them. Their on-screen chemistry is insane and Zac keeps on saying how much fun it was filming with Zendaya. He even said that their kissing scene was his most favorite ever. They have even had sweet moments on Twitter when Zac sent Zendaya a sweet birthday tweet, to which she replied and called him her "partner in crime." They should just get together and put us at ease.

Dated In Real Life: Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling (The Notebook)

Did you watch the 2004 romance film, The Notebook? Although this film hit theaters 14 years ago, it has remained at the top of most romantics' lists. Something about films based on what appears to be forbidden love makes people want to watch them over and over, possibly because such films make people think about the possibilities in their own lives. Many people will continue to consider this film one of their most favorite of all time for many years to come.

The two leading actors in the film are Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling and they played the roles of Allie and Noah respectively, who were two young people whose love was unstoppable. Later we got to find out that Gosling and McAdams didn’t get along when they were shooting. According to the Daily Mail, Gosling even wanted McAdams kicked off the movie and asked for another actress to read the script with because they couldn’t get along.

However, after a shouting meeting with the director of the movie, Nick Cassavetes, these two agreed to work together and brought on the chemistry we all loved when watching the movie. Afterward, these two started dating in real life for approximately two years. Gosling told the Huffington Post that their busy schedules were to blame for the split.

We Wish Would Date: Lucy Hale and Ian Harding (Pretty Little Liars)

TV co-stars, Lucy Hale and Ian Harding, are the poster children for forbidden romance dramedy. These two actors from American teen TV show, Pretty Little Liars, have been on our screens from 2010 to 2017. Lucy plays the role of Aria Montgomery, a high school student, while Ian plays the role of Ezra Fitz, an English teacher. Their epic romance story is one of the highlights of this murder mystery teen drama that won fans throughout its seven-year series.

Ezra Fitz, played by Ian Harding meets Aria Montgomery, played by Lucy Hale in a bar. The two start talking about college. One thing leads to another and they end up making out before the end of the night. The next day, they are both shocked to find out that Ezra is Aria's new high school English teacher. The complexity of their romance has made us laugh, cry, scream, throw spoons at our TVs, and do much worse.

The couple Ezria, as we have come to know them has appeared so many times on screen and with their stellar acting skills; they have convinced us that they are in love. It's very difficult to convince a fan of Pretty Little Liars that Aria and Ezra aren't dating off-screen. The two have often had to answer questions in multiple interviews where they were asked to come clean on whether they were lovers in real life or not. We wish they were.

Dated In Real Life: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson (Twilight)

Everyone who was a fan of The Twilight saga knows just how romantic the film series was, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who played the roles of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. If you remember correctly, Cullen was a vampire, who unlike other vampires didn't drink blood, and Bella was a human girl who never seemed to fit anywhere except by her vampire friend's side. These two fell in love, and although their romance was dangerous and even life-threatening, especially to Bella, these two ended up together.

This was another case of love between two people who shouldn't have been together, but against all odds, they found a way of being together. This is arguably one of the reasons the films did so well, raking in over $3.3 billion in worldwide revenue.

Stewart and Pattinson appeared to be falling for each other in real life, despite not confirming their relationship status for a year. In 2010, they confirmed they were together, and every fan of the show was in love with the fact that their favorite film couple was finally dating. However, in 2012, pictures of Kristen and Rupert Sanders getting intimate hit the internet, and this must have been the reason for their parting ways.

We Wish Would Date: Lily Collins and Sam Claflin (Love Rosie)

Movie costars, Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, gave us a heart-melting performance in their epic romance movie, Love Rosie. 29-year-old Lily is the English American daughter of Phil Collins, while 31-year-old Sam is an actor who also teaches English. Their performance in the 2014 romantic comedy movie left wounds in our hearts.

In the movie, Lily, who played the role of Rosie, was best friends with her neighbor, Alex, played by Sam. Sam was secretly in love with Rosie but was afraid to tell her. She had a one-night stand on prom night, got pregnant, and bailed on a plan to go study abroad with Sam. With time, she developed feelings for him and the whole movie took us through their struggles in life from when they were teens and into their adulthood.

The fact that the plot of the movie takes us through their lives from teenage years to older years, we feel like we know them, and we want to see them as a couple. The painful part of this movie is that they got close to being together so many times but kept missing the chance. Their on-screen chemistry was epic. We would love to see how that would go off screen, but unfortunately for Lily, Sam is married.

Dated In Real Life: Tea Leoni & Tim Daly (Madam Secretary)

Are you one of those people who wonder how actors feel when they have to get intimate with other actors on set while they're married to someone else in real life? The situation would probably be even more complicated for TV couples whose series have many episodes and they go on for many years, meaning they have to develop some feelings for their co-stars since it's only human to do so.

Although many actors deny ever developing feelings for their co-stars, claiming that they're professionals, the truth is, these feelings are something they all have to deal with, especially when the cameras aren't rolling. However, Tea Leoni and Tim Daly don’t have to deal with any of this, because they're together both onscreen and in real life.

Fans of Madam Secretary know just how good this couple is on the show, and it would make sense for them to try to see where their relationship would lead since they're both divorced. The show started in 2014, and The Daily Mail reported they started dating the same year. Arguably, these two have what appears to be the best job, since they get to hang out with their significant other on set as well as in private.

We Wish Would Date: Peter Hermann and Sutton Foster (Younger)

Actor, Peter Hermann, and actress, Sutton Foster, from TV Land's dramedy series, Younger, will be the end of us. The plot revolves around Sutton, who plays the role of Liza, a 42-year-old woman who fakes her age to get a job as a 26-year-old in a publishing company owned by Charles, a character played by Peter Hermann. This series has gained such a huge following in the course of its four seasons due to its unbelievably romantic love triangles, dreamy cast, perfect scenes, and a nerve-wracking production by Darren Star.

The plot of this epically romantic series has fans worked up so badly, they are threatening to ditch the show if Charles and Liza don't get together in Season 5. Their on-screen chemistry is insane and Darren Star has managed to string us along for the show by making sure that there is enormous build up to their relationship.

In real life, Peter Hermann has been married to the award-winning actress, Mariska Hargitay, since 2004. Mariska is best-known for her role in the NBC drama series, Law & Order, where she played Detective Olivia Benson. She is an activist, she speaks five languages, and she is awesome, to say the least. Sutton Foster has been married to famous screenwriter, Ted Griffin, since 2014. Ted's work includes big hits such as Ravenous, Oceans11, The Shield, Killers, The Wolf of Wall Street, Solace, and many others. Although we know that these two co-stars are happily married to other people, we would have loved to see them together if that weren't the case.

Dated In Real Life: Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries)

Fans of The Vampire Diaries had every reason to believe that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were meant to be because their onscreen romance was off the charts. These two met in 2009 on the show, and in 2011, they announced they were dating. Somerhalder played the role of a bad boy vampire called Damon, while Dobrev played the role of Elena.

Of course, since in the show, they were an item, it was easy to understand why they had decided to start dating in real life. Instead of being shocked by the news, fans had been expecting the announcement for a long time. However, as is the case with most Hollywood on-screen romances, their relationship was over in two to three years, since according to E! News, they threw in the towel in 2013. Their decision to end their relationship was the surprise here.

Since they never revealed the main reason why they broke up, some sources claimed Dobrev was probably not ready for a lifelong commitment at the time. This would explain why two years after their split, he was married to Nikki Reed. However, the most adorable thing about these two is they continue to be friends regardless of everything that happened.

We Wish Would Date: Kate Winslet and Idris Elba (The Mountain Between Us)

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are big stars, who have been starring in very successful movies for a very long time and each has a huge following. Kate Winslet's unforgettable performance alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 epic romantic film, Titanic, was incredible, and it arguably propelled her into international stardom. She is also one of the few women to have received an Academy Award for Best Actress, owing to her amazing performance on The Reader.

On the other hand, Idris Elba is one of the most talented British actors out there, who most people remember from his role on BBC One's, Luther, as well as HBO's, The Wire. Fans of superhero movies have loved his performance in the Avengers films so far, closely associated with Thor playing a character called Heimdall. Over the years, he has won many awards and a short while back, people rumored he was going to be the first black James Bond.

These two make it to this list owing to their amazing performance in last year's romance survival film called The Mountain Between Us. Since the film primarily focused on these two, they shared passionate moments that made us wonder if they were really acting. Winslet has been married since 2012, so she might not be interested in dating Elba. However, this doesn't mean that it would hurt just thinking about how perfect these two would be for each other.

Dated In Real Life: Blake Lively and Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl)

One of our favorite couples in the series, Gossip Girl, was Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey, characters who were played by Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. In the show, these two tied the knot in the series finale, making their relationship a really big deal. In line with everyone's expectations, these two started dating soon after the show began. However, they wanted to keep their relationship as private as possible since, according to an interview with Vanity Fair, they didn't want to get in trouble at work.

However, when their bosses at the show discovered they were dating in secret, they were excited and encouraged them to date, especially out in the open. Their relationship appeared to be exactly what they wanted to make the show even more popular since they even encouraged them to wear the same clothes they wear in the show when they were out and about, for people to buy into the Gossip Girl world.

These two split up in 2010, just three years after they got together, and since they knew how important their relationship was to the show, they decided to keep their breakup a secret. For months, even the cast had no idea these two had parted ways. These two continued to work normally and their personal lives did not affect the show.

We Wish Would Date: Sterling K. Brown and Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us)

The NBC family drama, This Is Us, has had high ratings since its premiere in 2016, up to this date. This emotionally turbocharged romantic drama has us glued to our screens. The plot of the show is based around the Pearson family, who lost one of their triplets during childbirth and adopted a baby, Randall, who is abandoned at birth on the same day. They took home three babies, Kate, Kevin, and Randall.

Randall's character is played by Sterling K. Brown, who happens to be one of Hollywood's hottest crushes right now. Not only is he handsome, he is also sweet, friendly, and very charming. Alongside this character, we have the beautiful and cute, Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays the role of Beth, Randall's wife.

The plot of this show is very well thought out with scenes from the past, future, and present. They are mixed all over the plot with an aim to rip our hearts out every time an episode ends on a cliffhanger. It's a tearjerker and a binge-worthy show all rolled into one.

Randall and Beth aren't the leading characters in this show, but over time, they have managed to steal our hearts, gain our favor, and win an Emmy and a Golden Globe award for their stellar acting. Some fans even doubted whether they were just acting or there was something more since their love presence can be felt from space.

Dated In Real Life: Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan (Alias)

If you love action spy movies and series, then you must have been a fan of Alias, which ran on ABC from 2001 to 2006. Jennifer Garner played the leading role of a woman called Sydney Bristow, who initially thought she was working for the CIA, just to realize she was working for a criminal espionage organization. Her role led her to grow close to Michael Vartan's character called Michael Vaughn, who was her character's love interest in the show.

These two developed feelings for each other even off-screen and started going out officially. Garner was fresh off her marriage of two and a half years with Scott Foley, and according to Female First, she found singlehood quite boring. She actually claimed Hollywood was to blame for the breakdown of her first marriage.

Garner and Vartan got into a relationship from 2003 to 2004. It was so fast after her marriage ended, we'd say this was a rebound relationship. Despite breaking up, these two had to continue working together as love interests in Alias, and their level of chemistry in the show just showed how amazing these two are as actors. In 2005, Garner married Ben Affleck, and the end of this second marriage, Vatan told E! News he doesn’t think he and Garner would ever get back together.

We Wish Would Date: Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy)

American actor, Patrick Dempsey, is famous for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd, a.k.a McDreamy, on the super famous TV show, Grey's Anatomy. He starred alongside Ellen Pompeo, who played the role of Meredith Grey, a general surgeon on the show. According to the plot of the show, Derek divorced his wife of 12 years due to irreconcilable differences and ended up dating and marrying Meredith. The show gathered a massive following across the globe, which isn't a surprise since it's produced by Shonda Rhymes.

The epic love story between Derek and Meredith has been on our screens for so long, we can't imagine them with other people. They have gone through so many hurdles and struggles together and in the end, when Shonda Rhymes killed off the role of Derek, fans from across the globe went insane.

The funny part about Dempsey and Ellen is that they don't like each other in real life. Ellen hates the fact that Dempsey was paid more than her because she was a woman, while the show was named after her character. She felt that her role was bigger, yet Dempsey acted as though he carried the show because he was the bigger star.

We know that they are both married to different people, but what if they weren't; would they still make a good couple off the screen if they could iron out their celebrity status situation? We will never know.

Dated In Real Life: Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill)

According to Digital Spy and Cosmopolitan, One Tree Hill was one of the all-time greatest teen dramas, since it was so captivating and anyone would find a reason to watch it. The series premiered with 2.5 million viewers, a figure that rose to 3.3 million in just a week, which made it one of the most popular series on TV at the time. One Tree Hill received numerous award nominations and won a few.

Romantic relationships were central to the plot of the show, and Chad Michael Murray, who played the leading role of a character called Lucas Scott, got into quite a number. One of his most notable relationships was with Brooke Davis, a character played by Sophia Bush. These two went on to date in real life and even got married in 2005. Five months later, these two separated and in December 2006, their divorce was finalized.

These two tried their best to keep their relationship professional, especially on TV so as to keep the show going. In an interview with E! News, Bush appeared to suggest she regretted getting involved with Murray since she claimed the two of them were stupid kids who had no business getting into the relationship they were in.

We Wish Would Date: Elizabeth Gillies and Robert Christopher Riley (Dynasty)

TV shows and movie remakes from the '80s are huge this season. Dynasty, a TV show on The CW, is a remake of the 1980's prime show, whose plot is based on two wealthy families— the Carringtons and the Colbys. As usual, the two wealthy families are at odds with each other, due to family secrets and day to day struggles. The plot thickens as we are taken on a rollercoaster of wealth, glamour, deceit, betrayal, love, hate, and all the drama that comes with backroom deals.

Amidst all that chaos, a couple comes forth and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Fallon Carrington, daughter of Blake Carrington, is a role played by Elizabeth Gillies. Michael Culhane, the Carrington family chauffeur, is a role played by Robert Christopher Riley. The plot of the show takes us on a dramatic plot, which leaves us fans wanting more with every end of an episode.

It would be interesting to see these two give love a chance on screen and off the screen. The fact that Elizabeth is Italian American, while Robert is African American would make the relationship even better. The diversity of their backgrounds would encourage more people to love one another despite their backgrounds, social status, and skin color.

Dated In Real Life: Emily VanCamp and Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters)

This is a unique entry in its own way because it's about two relationships that Emily VanCamp was involved in and how similar they were to each other. First, in ABC's Brothers & Sisters, Emily VanCamp played the role of a character called Rebecca, who got into a relationship with her half-brother Justin, played by Dave Annable.

These two started dating even in real life, and the producers even changed the plot to kill the blood relationship between their characters. However, their off-screen relationship lasted slightly more than a year, when VanCamp left the show and was replaced by Odette Yustman. One more interesting thing about Annable's relationship with Yustman is that they also began dating in real life and they're currently husband and wife.

Right before appearing on Brothers & Sisters, VanCamp had played the role of a character called Amy Abbott, who was a sister to Bright Abbott, a character played by Chris Pratt in the series, Everwood. The weird thing was that these two on-screen siblings were dating in real life. Their relationship went on for about two years but parted ways thereafter.

Chris Pratt went on to marry Anna Faris, who he met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007. In the film, these two were love interests.

We Wish Would Date: Alexandra Park and Tom Austen (The Royals)

Nothing moves audiences more than a love story involving a royal princess and a commoner. Alexandra Park and Tom Austen are the newest talks of town owing to their romantic drama TV show, The Royals. The plot of this steamy drama series takes us into the lives of a fictional royal family where politics, mistrust, drama, romance, and backstabbing is the order of their day.

The royal Princess Eleanor's role is played by Alexandra Park. Tom Austen plays the role of a Security agent, Jasper, who cons his way into the royal castle to steal the crown, but he stays and becomes a legit security agent after falling in love with the princess. However, they cannot declare their love in public, given that she is the royal princess and he is a reformed American con artist. The plot thickens as we wait to see what will unfold in the current Season 4.

The two characters, better known as Jaspernor had a weird and complicated love-hate relationship at first, but over time, it developed into an epic love story. Their chemistry on screen and off screen is evident and they would make such a great couple.
